The web is full of great information sources. Unfortunately, there is also lots of low quality information that isn't suitable for academic research. You wouldn't use rotten apples to make a pie, and you can't write an outstanding paper with rotten sources and information.

Evaluating Web Information with SIFT

S = STOP! Do you know and trust the source? Don't read or watch until you know.

I = Investigate the source. Who is responsible for the content?

F = Find trusted coverage. Find the information in a source you trust or scan multiple sources to see if a consensus has been reached.

T = Trace claims, quotes, and media back to the original context. Has the information been accurately presented?
