Delta College Archives

The Bay City Junior College Records contain materials documenting the history, activities and student life of Bay City Junior College. Records include course catalogs, commencement programs, directories, yearbooks and student newspapers.

The Tri-County College Records contains materials that document the creation of Tri-County community college serving the Bay City, Midland, and Saginaw communities. Original documents, news clippings, and reports provide background on the formation of the college.

The Board of Trustees Records contain materials documenting the governance and administrative activities of the Board of Trustees. Records include meeting minutes, correspondence and clippings.

Samuel Marble was the founding president of Delta College, hired in 1958. While in office, he was a strong advocate for creating a four-year college and eventually made it happen in 1964, founding Saginaw Valley State University and becoming their first president. This collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, and reports.

Donald J. Carlyon was the first business manager of Delta College and then went on to be the President for 28 years. He served the Delta and tri-county communities through various roles on boards and committees as well as his presidency throughout the 1960’s into the 1990’s and early 2000’s. He was from Nebraska but ended up spending most of his life in Michigan. These materials include correspondence, photographs, audio tapes, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, financial records, ephemera, and reports.

The Senate Record Group documents the activities of the Delta College Senate. The
Senate includes faculty and administrative/professional and support staff. Records include senate
handbooks, meeting agendas and minutes and senate policy and procedures that apply to
employees of Delta.

The Community Research Institute Records are the work-product of the professors,
students, and community members who participated in Delta College’s Research Institute. This
product consists of reports, notes, memos, data, correspondence, and anything written that came
from their collaboration. The Institute researched community issues in the tri-cities region.

Describes the records of the Sister College Partnership between Delta College and the Rift Valley Institute of Technology in Nakuru, Kenya.

The Delta Players & Drama Club Records contain material documenting the activities of the student drama club and theater troupe, usually referred to as the Delta Players. Records include playbills, posters, scripts, correspondence and invoices related to Delta theater productions.

Describes the Athletics Subgroup Inventory, which contains materials generated by the Delta College Athletics Department.

Describes the records related to Delta College Off-Campus Centers, including the current center in Midland, Bay City and Saginaw.

The Broadcasting Records contains material related to Delta College’s public
broadcasting operations, including the television station WDCQ-TV (formerly WUCM-TV) and
the radio station WUCX-FM.

Facilities Management (previously Physical Plant and before that Buildings and Grounds) has been a department with Delta college since before it opened. They are responsible for the appearance, operations, and function of the campus as well as all improvement projects. These materials include correspondence, reports, photographs, blueprints, floorplans, and manuals.
