About This Holiday

Holi is a Hindu festival celebrating the triumph of good over evil.

There are many mythologies and stories around this holiday which shift and change depending on which region of an area one lives. At Holi's core, it's a celebration of the beginning of Spring, of good overcoming evil, and forgiveness of past mistakes allowing for new starts. One of the most common ways of celebrating this holiday is by throwing colored water and powder on each other. For this reason, this holiday is also known as the "Festival of Colors."

Because this is a holiday determined by the Hindu calendar, the official date changes annually between late February and mid-March. This year, Holi takes place on March 25th.
