The year of 2019 brought an obstacle to Americans that many say we were unprepared for Covid 19 has brought about a lot of delayed response to the worldwide Pandemic lead to the vaccine mandates that Many Americans are facing today. We believe there should not be a forced vaccine mandate. For any American regardless of occupation and status. Our stand on the topic is Anti mandate on the covid vaccine because long term effects of it are unknown. The response to this mandate especially in the healthcare field is a backlash. Healthcare workers, pregnant or lactating women, certain religious groups, and those who are just opposing feel as if it is a violation of their constitutional rights. “Some people are against business mandates. Others are against government mandates. Some are against both, while others support all forms of mandates, including requiring vaccination passports for people to shop and travel.”(Scribe.edu) As the milestone of two years of ‘living with the virus’ approaches, governments and businesses are keen to develop technological interventions that may enable the reopening of society whilst still protecting public health. Proposed interventions include: thermal scanning, contact tracing apps, and – most recently – COVID-19 ‘Vaccine
Can the government pressure a company that has contracts with them to force their employees to accept the jab? A government powerful enough to pressure companies into making decisions that affect thousands of people should worry anyone that is afraid of corporate power and believe in body autonomy.
“Most experts agree that mandates would be effective for getting most people to take the vaccine. There is no question that vaccination mandates are effective for that reason. But where are the ethics? Early into the COVID-19 virus, Anthony Fauci, along with several other U.S. health leaders, advised people to not wear masks. They later changed their tune and said that masks are important and needed. Fauci later said that he was concerned that there would not be enough protective equipment for health care workers.
When it comes to vaccine mandates many conservative people are choosing “my body my choice” route. Some people try to correlate pro-life and pro vaccine as one of the same. A person getting the vaccine have not proven to eliminate their chances of contracting the virus but, it does indicate that their symptoms would be lessened. Vaccines are needed before a population can achieve herd immunity against COVID-19. Herd immunity works through achieving a threshold of immunity at the population level that can cut the infectious disease threw vaccination or natural causes. If getting vaccinated helps builds antibodies and leaves a person being asymptomatic oppose to death shouldn’t everyone be leaning more towards vaccination? opposing side would argue yes. Also That herd immunity can only be achieved by vaccination.
Do we really need a vaccine before a population can achieve herd immunity against COVID-19? The opposing side cautious answer is yes, but we need to be cognizant that even with the vaccine, we probably will never reach herd immunity.
Herd immunity also can be reached when enough people have been vaccinated against a disease and have developed protective antibodies against future infection. Unlike the natural infection method, vaccines create immunity without causing illness or resulting complications. Using the concept of herd immunity, vaccines have successfully controlled contagious diseases such as smallpox, polio, diphtheria, rubella and many others. Herd immunity makes it possible to protect the population from a disease, including those who can't be vaccinated, such as newborns or those who have compromised immune systems.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved one COVID-19 vaccine and given emergency use authorization to a handful of COVID-19 vaccines. which is another argument that the opposing side would have. The The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved one COVID-19 vaccine.

Dear Represetative Guerra:
On behalf of those who are concerned and myself; I’m writing as a constituent, and as an undergraduate student in the Nursing Program who is engaged in a project called Change Your World Week (CYWW) at Delta College. This project gives many students an opportunity to learn and research on current events that they feel passionate about and would like share with the for instance: like Covid-19 vaccinations. The program needs state back up to ensure more information is available on Covid-19 vaccinations (Moderna, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson) and that way more people can make informed decisions to receive their vaccine. This attempt could save lives throughout different communities and help stop the rumored fears about the shot and help stop the spread of Corona virus.
Many fear the side effects about the Covid-19 vaccine; it is safe. Like all other vaccinations according to the CDC; there are some side effects including redness, swelling, and pain. Other symptoms may include tiredness, headache, muscle pain but this is a normal process, and this is how the body develops immunity. Covid-19 has been researched for many years because it is part of the Coronaviridae family. Vaccines are small amounts of antigens (parts of germs that help the immune system to learn to recognize and fight against disease causing pathogens. Long-term research has proven the vaccine works safely. The vaccine works by not entering the nucleus of the cell and will not alter human DNA. Although, a mask mandate has significantly reduced Corona virus in the state of Michigan, vaccinations will greatly reduce hospitalizations or even death!
Loved ones in our community who had underlying medical conditions contracted the virus after being fully vaccinated. They survived corona virus and did not need to be intubated. Receiving a vaccination proves to save lives and have been for the last several hundred years. Vaccinations for influenza (attacks lungs, nose and throat), measles, chicken pox, polio, and pertussis (highly contagious respiratory disease) have proved to work.
Again, I urge the state to advocate the use of vaccines to help stop the Corona Virus Pandemic and to become a vaccinated world. I trust these issues will be addressed and resolved thank you.
Sincerely,
Melissa Odette, Andrea Mitchell, and Shanique Miller RN program, Delta College
