The new abortion laws in Texas could affect not only citizens of Texas but our daughters, sisters, and friends here in Michigan!

Mississippi has a law that they are trying to put into place that would ban abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy.*
How does this affect women in Michigan?
If Roe v. Wade were to get overturned, Michigan law as revised in 1931 would make it a felony for a medical provider to perform an abortion unless it is necessary to preserve the life of the mother.*
Why are we afraid of this law affecting the rest of the country?
The fact that the courts were not willing to freeze the Texas law while they reviewed its merits confirms our fears.

What We Need to Change
What is the solution to this issue?
The removal of Act 328 of the Michigan Penal Code 750.14. This act states "Administering drugs, etc., with intent to procure miscarriage—Any person who shall willfully administer to any pregnant woman any medicine, drug, substance or thing whatever, or shall employ any instrument or other means whatever, with intent thereby to procure the miscarriage of any such woman, unless the same shall have been necessary to preserve the life of such woman, shall be guilty of a felony, and in case the death of such pregnant woman be thereby produced, the offense shall be deemed manslaughter. In any prosecution under this section, it shall not be necessary for the prosecution to prove that no such necessity existed."
What will the removal of this act do for Michigan abortion rights?
By eliminating this act, it would assure that the women of Michigan have access to safe accessible healthcare.

What does the opposing side think about this issue?
Pro-lifers believe that women who access a safe abortion should be imprisoned for manslaughter.
They also believe any doctor that performs abortions should have their license revoked and imprisoned for malpractice.
They finally believe that Planned Parenthood should be unfunded and shut down by law.
Why are these argument irrational?
In the same order as above,
Whether abortion is legal or not, a woman will find a way to access an abortion if needed, let that be a professional facility with trained professionals or in her own bathroom. Making abortion a crime will not lower abortion rates, it will just lower safe abortion rates.
However in many states abortion is considered healthcare, so a doctor providing an abortion to their patients is a doctor doing their job.
Planned parenthood provides many other vital healthcare procedures and check-ups that are necessary for any woman. Shutting down and defunding Planned Parenthood would be violating a woman's right to healthcare.

Who has a stake in this issue and why do they have a stake in this issue?
Supporters of the Pro-Life Movement: The Pro-Life Movement supports abortion bans so they would benefit from the Texas abortion law being expanded to other states.
Churches: Abortion goes against religious belief so religious groups are affected by abortion bans positively since that is what they favor.
Medical Professionals: If abortions were illegal, they could get sued for trying to help people who need an abortion
Foster Care Facilities: If abortions were illegal, they would find issues with overcrowding
Supporters of the Pro-Choice Movement: Knowing that they, as well as their female family members, will have access to safe affordable healthcare options
Planned Parenthood: Would be able to continue to educate people and give affordable healthcare options
