How Library Instruction Works at Delta Library

English 111/111A/111H Course Description

Delta Library’s English 111/111A  library research course develops basic research skills and prepares students for more advanced techniques they will need in English 112 and beyond. This course is available in-person and in asynchronous online format. The D2L course takes about an hour to complete and progress is saved in Brightspace D2L. (There are two quick tutorials in the middle where progress is not saved)

The Course Covers the Following Topics:

  • Developing an idea into a researchable research topic using preliminary research. 
  • Information source types and research strategy 
  • Finding and using credible web resources and finding citation information for websites. 
  • Basic database skills: Boolean operators, keywords, limits, and using database documents. 
  • Searching databases with OneSearch to find magazine, encyclopedia, and journal articles, as well as books and eBooks. 
  • Accessing library resources on the Delta Library homepage and getting help from a librarian.
